  • Hi guy! I want to take your time today to talk about toothpaste. Yep, simple ol’ toothpaste. You know the one that we use to brush our teeth every day. This time I want to make emphasis in this underestimated item because it has an important role in our daily routine regarding oral care.

And every great daily routine for maintaining good oral care starts with brushing your teeth. This way we protect not only our teeth but our gums as well. And as I said above toothpaste is commonly overlooked.  I bet most of you just grab any tube of toothpaste without ever bothering to look at it, or maybe you use a brand just because.

But in reality, toothpaste has special formulas made from companies and they compete fiercely in the market to provide the best one for you, the costumer. This makes the choice of buying simple toothpaste pretty difficult because how exactly do we know which one is the best out there.

The first thing is to understand the basic job of toothpaste. For starters, they help your brush to remove the plaque that builds up on the teeth and also avoids other issues like as gingivitis and periodontitis.  This is important to get rid of food debris that get stuck between the teeth and attract bacteria to your mouth, leaving a film on your teeth that eventually lead to tooth decay, cavities, and ultimately, tooth loss.

To fight this, most toothpastes contain a substance called fluoride, which helps to strengthen the enamel of your teeth, providing protection from the acidic environment caused by bacteria. But be careful though, as fluoride can be poisonous in large doses. So avoid swallowing toothpaste when brushing your teeth.   Another important ingredient in toothpaste is baking soda, which helps to whiten the teeth.

Before the invention of the commercial toothpaste that we know today baking soda was the most common product used to brush and clean the teeth. So this is why baking soda is really safe and effective to use in cleaning and whitening your teeth.

    Choosing the right toothpaste

The ideal thing is that you choose your toothpaste according to your personal needs. If you have difficulty eating or drinking things that are very hot or very cold because you suffer from sensitive teeth, then you probably need a special toothpaste for that. So search in your nearest pharmacy for a toothpaste specially made for sensitive teeth.

These toothpastes contain specific chemicals that help to desensitize the teeth and helping it to calm the nerve, preventing it from sending pain signals to your brain.  However, they are not a fix for the problem and you should go to see your dentist for treating this condition.

Also, you can find toothpastes that contain chemicals that stay on your teeth for a long time after brushing, preventing plaque and tartar to build up on your teeth. These toothpastes are really cool because they contain certain amounts of a special antibiotic that kill all the germs that can reside in the mouth and cause most of the oral health concerns.

And if you happen to be in Mexico, in Los Algodones pharmacies you can find great deals in any toothpaste that you want, besides their crazy prices in dentists, you will save a lot of money!

But if you want to be safe, go always for toothpaste that has earned the approval of the American Dental Association. All those products are a 100% protective and really beneficial for you, including toothpastes.  However, if you for some reason don’t want toothpaste with fluoride then you will have a harder time finding an ADA approved toothpaste.

If this is your case then I recommend looking for a high quality toothpaste made from a reputable company. But as I said, check out Los Algodones, Mexico, I find my toothpaste there. Cheers
