Tips to recover after a dental implant surgery

Healing after a dental implant surgery is not an easy task, but with some discipline and helps you are going to overcome it in no time. And that is why I’m going to try to teach you today.

Frist it is important to not disturb the surgical area right away. This means to not rinse vigorously or touching the area with any kind of object. You can brush your teeth very gently. Also smoking will slow down the healing process and increase the chances of getting an infection. So that’s a no no.

Keeping clean the mouth is a must too. So keep in mind as I said to brush very slowly and careful your teeth after the surgery. If there is bleeding, rinse with saltwater at least 24 after the surgery and swish gently to avoid hurting yourself. These rinses should be done 2 times a day, especially after eating.

After surgery you should be in bed resting. Avoid bending, lifting, or strenuous activity to minimize the chances of bleeding, swelling and pain. Be careful when going standing from your resting place. If you get up fast you could get light headed suddenly.

If you are the type of person that exercise regularly, take awareness that you cannot do it for some time. Avoid exercise for 3 to 4 days following surgery.

Ice can be also an answer to relieve pain. Fill two zipper lock bags with some ice and apply them to your cheeks to reduce the swelling and pain with numbness.

Patients are also worried about what to eat. But you shouldn’t’ be too worried and just try to balance your diet with vitamins. Avoid extremely hot and cold foods or drinks. The first days it is recommendable to consume liquids or pureed foods like soups, puddings, yogurt, milk shakes, and mashed potatoes.

Avoid chewing and biting food until your tongue sensation has returned. Also, it is a good idea to avoid foods like rice, nuts, sunflower seeds, popcorn, and other solids. This is to avoid food to get stuck in the surgical areas and cause an infection. Do not to skip meals! If you don’t eat properly you won’t be feeling better anytime soon!

Now for the second and third Days

Keep rinsing your mouth using salt water and rinse gently. Now you can repeat it as often as you like, but do it at least 2 to 3 times a day.

Now you can begin to do a normal dental hygiene routine. Remember that you cannot be aggressive or violent when brushing, so slow down a bit. It is very important to clean your teeth within your comfort. By maintaining a clean environment in your mouth in the healing process after surgery, your wounds will heal so fast that you won’t believe it.

Remember that the body needs time to heal. So I’ll be insistent in this matter: Keep calm and rest. After the first week all the symptoms should be fading away as expected but give it some time, let the nature do its work. Keep resting in the bed or in the couch and distract yourself from the pain.
